C-Zero’s technology is a form of methane pyrolysis that uses innovative thermocatalysis to extract the carbon in natural gas as a dense solid. The company is developing a drop-in decarbonization system which can be placed in between the existing natural gas infrastructure and industrial natural gas consumers seeking to lower their carbon dioxide emissions.
Insight
Like all hydrocarbons, natural gas contains zero-emission energy in the form of hydrogen. In fact, 60% of the energy in natural gas comes from hydrogen and produces only water as a byproduct.
Big Idea
What if we could selectively access just the hydrogen in hydrocarbons, and utilize its energy without making carbon dioxide?
Applications
C-Zero’s technology can be used to decarbonize a wide array of industries including electrical generation, process heating, and the production of commodity hydrogen for fuel cell vehicles, ammonia synthesis and refining processes.
