MPSModel PelaFlex - Floating Platform for Offshore Wind Turbines

SHARE

The PelaFlex floating platform by Marine Power Systems offers a flexible and modular technology tailored for the scalable deployment of floating wind turbines in deep water. This platform is structurally efficient, featuring users with excellent stability and ease of assembly, deployment, and maintenance. Designed from the outset for industrialized production, it can be anchored in waters deeper than 60 meters, enabling cost-effective wind turbine installations. The platform's simplified structure minimizes fabrication and assembly costs, requiring only basic lifting equipment and allowing for rapid outdoor assembly without specialized facilities. It supports flexible launch options, ensuring good towing stability and swift hook-up to become 'storm safe.' The PelaFlex presents numerous operational efficiencies, including zero tilt for optimal energy capture and minimal turbine wear, small offsets to reduce dynamic cable strain, and a minimal mooring footprint to mitigate seabed impact. At the end of its life, the platform can be easily disassembled and recycled, providing a significant cost advantage over its lifecycle. Thoroughly tested through scale prototypes and extensive computational simulations, Marine Power Systems is advancing towards deploying a grid-connected commercial-scale wind and wave device at the Biscay Marine Energy Platform in Spain.
