XchangerModel HP Series -Heat Exchangers

The HP Series Heat Exchangers are designed to efficiently heat and cool pressurized gas streams at pressures up to 100 PSIG. These heat exchangers are commonly used in applications such as aftercooling, dehumidifying, and heating air delivered from compressors in pneumatic conveying, air separation, and charge-air systems. The design features a removable heat exchanger core, enabling easy maintenance without disassembly of the gas line. Built according to ASME Section VIII, Div. 1 pressure vessel codes, the housing ensures reliability and compliance, with a code stamp available optionally. The fin-tube core design incorporates rectangular plate fins with die-extruded tube collars, maximizing heat exchange performance through a gap-free tube expansion into the collars. The fluid circuit comprises parallel tube systems joined at inlet and outlet headers, designed to prevent fluid trapping. Performance engineers utilize sophisticated computer modeling for optimal design, ensuring robust analysis and adherence to standards.

Common Applications
Aftercooling, dehumidifying, and heating air delivered from compressors used in pneumatic conveying, air separation and charge-air systems.

Pressure Housing
Heat exchanger cores are removable from the front of the housing without requiring disassembly of the gas line.  The housing is designed based on the ASME Section VIII, Div. 1 pressure vessel code.  A code stamp is available as an option.

Fin-Tube Core
The fins are rectangular plates with a matrix of die-extruded tube collars.  A sheet metal casing provides rigidity to the fin-tube assembly prior to tube expansion.  After assembly, the tubes are expanded into the fin collars. This allows for a gap-free connection maximizing heat exchanger performance and structural integrity.

Installation Considerations
The fluid circuit consists of several parallel tube circuits, which are joined at inlet and outlet headers. The circuits are designed to work “down hill” to prevent trapping.  To ensure complete drainage, optional intermediate drain headers are available.  Attached to the 180º return bends, the drain headers provide positive water drainage and protection from freeze-up.

Performance
Xchanger engineers use a computer model to analyze heat exchanger performance based on the best available engineering practice.  A specifically designed program calculates housing material thickness based on the ASME code.
