SVECOM - Model GMT and GMTV -Industrial Steam Generators

SHARE

The horizontal GMT and vertical GMT/V steam generators are once-through coil boilers. The exchange of heat between water, steam and combustion products, the relative turbulent regimes, the fluid velocities kept as constant as possible by varying the passage sections, allow to obtain a particularly effective thermal exchange. The thermal load in the combustion chamber is on average below 2,000,000 calories per cubic meter, the specific production (kg of steam per square meter of heated surface) does not reach 70 Kg/sqm.

For installations in Italy, the GMT and GMT / V generators up to size 200 are excluded from the field of application of the UNI-TS 11325 and are exempted from the continuous presence of the licensed driver according to article 29 of the D.M. 05/21/1974. For higher sizes it is possible to provide the configuration suitable for operation without supervision for 72 hours. If necessary, for example in the case of installation of European countries other than Italy, this configuration can also be provided on smaller models.

Maximum power in minimal space, very compact design, high performance, are the peculiar characteristics of these generators that can work both with two flame burners and with modulated regulation.

Such a generator is used to produce saturated steam, which means it is in an equilibrium phase between liquid and gaseous state and can be heated further to the desired process temperature.

These generators are used for industrial processes and the operation of large heating plants. In general, the main areas of application are:

  • food, canning, dairy;
  • production of alcoholic beverages such as wine and beer;
  • chemical, petrochemical and pharmaceutical;
  • rubber production;
  • textiles;
  • meat and feed processing;
  • paper and cardboard;
  • production of semi-finished concrete products (precast concrete).

These types of industrial boilers consist of a metal tank and operate through a series of pipes or circuits aimed at heating the water inside them.

Depending on the type of piping, generators of this type can be divided into two categories:

  • smoke-tube: heat from the gas is transferred to the pipe wall by thermal conduction; then, from the pipe wall to the water until it is converted to a gaseous state. This system requires a huge amount of water and is typical of old locomotives or for marine applications;
  • water blades: evaporated water circulates within the boiler tube bundle heated directly by combustion gases from the combustion chamber. They are ideal for laundries, ironing rooms, dry cleaners, saunas, as well as for heating tanks, reservoirs, and generally for all industrial processes that do not need a large amount of steam.

An industrial generator of this type has as its main advantage, precisely that of using steam as an energy carrier, which has numerous advantages, including lowering the consumption and energy costs of the plant.

Why is using steam convenient? Firstly, it can be produced economically using different fuels (LPG, diesel, etc…), furthermore, it is possible to change its pressure, a parameter proportional to the temperature of the liquid that reaches the gaseous state. This correlation makes it easy to control the energy delivered and is a rather advantageous feature because it makes other mechanical equipment, such as a pump or compressor to move the evaporated liquid, superfluous, because it is the pressure itself that provides the necessary thrust to be able to distribute it to the end user.

Another advantage lies in the fact that the thermal energy released is sterile (a very important property for some sectors, such as the food and pharmaceutical industries) and can be transferred directly to the process or to another energy carrier.

There are low-pressure (up to 1 bar), medium-pressure (up to 15 bar) and high-pressure (over 15 bar) industrial generators. Typically, those most commonly used in Italy are medium- and high-pressure ones, which can provide a production capacity of twenty tons per hour of gaseous material, but low-pressure ones are also used for the operation of professional laundries and ironing plants.

All steam generators are industrial boilers designed, tested, built based on the latest regulations, and can be certified according to PED, ASME, naval bodies or other regulations depending on the country of installation.
