Keppel Seghers - Energy Recovery Boiler Systems
From Waste Management
A key component in the energy recovery system, the Keppel Seghers Boiler transfers heat present in the flue gas to the water/steam circuit.
Products Details
Optimised solutions for maximum heat recovery efficiency in high-performance waste-to-energy plants.
Thermal energy captured in waste-to-energy (WTE) facilities can be beneficially used to provide district heating for households and businesses as well as process heating for industrial heat consumers.
Keppel Seghers' energy recovery systems and process equipment are designed to maximise WTE efficiency with prolonged lifespan.
It consists of two sections which optimise heat recovery efficiency while minimising thermal corrosion:
- Radiation section (also known as empty passes)
- Heat transfer by radiation in the high temperature range (1200 - 650°C)
- Water-cooled walls with no tubes installed in the flue gas flow
- Convection section
- Heat transfer by convection in the lower temperature range (650 - 200°C).
- Water-cooled walls with tubes hung in the flue gas flow. The tubes are arranged into different blocs, each with its own function.
The segregation of the two sections mitigates the corrosive impact of the flue gases. In the convection section the boiler tubes are directly into contact with the flue gases. The combination of some pollutants and the temperature results in a high risk for corrosion of the boiler tubes. Therefore the flue gas temperature is reduced to about 650°C in the radiation section before coming into contact with the tubes of the convection section.
Keppel Seghers Prism
Our proprietary Prism technology boosts combustion and boiler performance, using an innovative prism-shaped body in the first empty boiler pass.
The Prism allows a highly optimised secondary air injection and combustion control, leading to more homogeneous flue gas conditions at a very early stage and less hot spots. The improvements on the combustion and post-combustion processes result in a much shorter and clearly defined burn-out of the flue gases just above the Prism.
As such, the Prism not only leads to increased performance in new boilers, but is a proven measure against the severe corrosion problems in the high-temperature boiler sections that many plants suffer from. It also enables higher throughput and higher availability of the WTE plant.
Suited for WTE plants having a high capacity, the Prism can also be installed in existing WTE plants and can be custom-configured according to the customer's needs.
