Model Micro-CHP - Combined Heat and Power
Combined heat and power (CHP), or cogeneration, is the simultaneous production of useful heat and electricity from a single source. It is a true low (or zero) carbon dioxide alternative to a gas boiler. Micro-CHP (µCHP) refers to the small-scale production of heat and power for individual commercial buildings, apartments and individual homes. These units meet the demand for space heating and hot water whilst providing electricity to supplement or replace the grid supply.

The Benefits of Micro-CHP
- Carbon emissions are reduced by generating electricity at the point of use, avoiding the system losses associated with central power production.Central power production only uses around 40% of primary energy, while the efficiency of micro-CHP is more than 90%.
- Economic savings are generated for the user, by reducing imported electricity and by selling surplus electricity back to the grid.
Remeha eVita: the world's first micro-CHP combi boiler
Remeha is proud to have developed the world’s first micro-CHP combi boiler, the Remeha eVita. The eVita boiler operates in the same way as a normal high-performance boiler. This means it is controlled using a room thermostat and provides high-efficiency heating and domestic hot water.
Up to 1 kW of electricity is generated by a maintenance free Stirling engine as soon as the unit is running to provide heat. On a yearly basis, this allows an average family to generate about two-thirds of its own electricity consumption using the eVita, thus achieving a significant reduction of CO2 emissions (± 1,000 kg) and energy costs (as much as 25% or ± €300 to €400).
The Remeha eVita has become commercially available in the Netherlands in November 2010 and will also be introduced in France, the UK and Germany respectively.
