AIREDIFPillow Plate Flue Gas Condenser for Biomass and Waste Combustion

SHARE

The Pillow Plate Flue Gas Condenser is an innovative heat exchanger designed to enhance energy recovery in combustion plants utilizing wet fuels, such as biomass or household waste. This advanced equipment builds on the design of the Process-Therm, utilizing a larger heat exchange surface to improve performance. The system operates by circulating flue gases from the burner around the outside of the condenser plates, while water flows internally—this water can be sourced from district heating networks or industrial processes. As the moisture within the combustion gases condenses, latent heat is efficiently recovered, potentially reducing gas/liquid temperature differentials to very low levels and optimizing overall exchanger efficiency. With proven operational experience in thermal power and cogeneration plants utilizing boilers from 2 to 250MW, these condensers not only recover energy but also allow for flue gas cleaning. Such implementations can increase plant efficiency by up to 25%, offering a significant return on investment.

This exchanger, based on a Pillow Plate coil, is a derivation of the Process-Therm, but can be even larger in size and heat exchanged.

Flue gas condensers are used in combustion plants using ‘wet’ fuels, such as biomass or household waste.

The flue gas from the burner, after releasing energy at high temperature in the boiler, circulates around the outside of the condenser plates, while inside there is a circulation of water, which may be, for example, water from district heating networks, or water used to heat industrial processes.  The moisture contained in the combustion gases condenses, allowing latent heat to be recovered. Depending on the size of the plates, very low gas/liquid DTs can be obtained, and the efficiency of these exchangers can be maximised.

This type of condenser has proven operational experience in thermal power generation or cogeneration plants (with boilers from 2 to 250MW).

In addition to condensation and energy recovery with flue gas condensers, it is also possible to clean the flue gases.

They can be supplied complete with flue gas inlet and outlet sections, even of considerable dimensions, as well as other upstream and downstream flue gas transport sections.

Their use can increase plant efficiency by up to 25%, providing a rapid return on investment
