Silicon Materials
Polysilicon or simply poly is a material consisting of multiple small silicon crystals. Polycrystalline silicon can be as much as 99.9999999% pure. It is most often mixed with oxygen in sand form. In today"s industry, pure silicon is either obtained via the Siemens process or, sometimes, though the fluid bed reactor (FBR) technology.
Semiconductor grade polysilicon is converted to "single crystal" silicon - meaning that the randomly associated atoms of silicon in "polycrystalline silicon" are converted to large "single" crystals of silicon. Single crystal silicon is previously used to manufacture electronic devices. The applications can be found in almost everywhere in our daily life from the cell phone you use to large air craft.
Polysilicon is also a key material for solar modules. The photovoltaic solar industry is growing rapidly and has replaced semi-conductor industry as the main consumer of polysilicon. But the requirement for silicon purity is not that demanding compared with semi-conductor industry. It is most commonly referred to as ‘solar grade silicon`. Previously, polysilicon production is mainly dominated by a few global manufacturers including REC, Hemlock and Wacker. In recent years, a handful of companies, most of them Chinese ones, have joined the silicon club by launching polysilicon manufacturing plants.
Once an ingot has been grown it is then sliced up into wafers. Silicon wafers are sliced from the ingot using Wire saws. The Wire saws are more efficient because it is able to slice the entire ingot with one step. In the past few years, solar cell wafers thickness has gone through from over 300μm to 200μm. The trend in the PV-industry is to further reduce the thickness and to reduce the kerf loss while maintaining and even improving the high surface quality. Immediately after slicing, the wafers are cleaned in a series of chemical baths to remove stains. All wafers are then sampled for mechanical parameters. Through partnerships with top equipment manufactuers, EGing manages to reduce the production cost while ensuring the homogeneity of the thickness and the quality of wafers
A solar cell is a device that performs the immediate conversion of light into electrical energy via photovoltaic or photochemical effect.
EGing’s mono-crystalline silicon solar cell production line adopts automation on all processes of cleaning, diffusion, PECVD, etching, printing, and sintering. Under strict control over the entire processes, our yield of high class cells reaches above industry average level. Cell sizes of EGing come both in 125 mm and 156 mm.
