The advantageous construction of floating wind power foundations allows them to be placed far offshore in deep waters, both beyond the horizon and beyond human sight.

Research have shown that the floating foundations can have some positive effects on the marine ecosystem. For example, several studies show that floating wind power farms can act as artificial reefs which create protected areas under the surface, beneficial for several fish species. The sea around the wind farms can also be shielded from trawling, creating nursery areas that contribute to more sustainable fishing.
Another advantage for the marine ecosystem is that the building structure for floating wind power can be easily removed, and the marine environment restored during decommissioning and dismantling.
