Unity Fuel Solutions - Aviation Fuel Storage Tanks
Unity Fuel Solutions’ Aviation fuel storage tanks are a self-contained aboveground fuel storage tank and fuel management solution for aviation fuel – from 264 to 28,372 gallons. If you’re involved in the aviation industry you understand that the cleanliness and quality of aviation fuel is vital to the safety of the aircraft, passengers and crew. It is vital to store aviation fuel only in specialists tanks specifically designed for Aviation Gasoline (AVGAS) or Turbine Fuel / Jet Fuel (Jet A1). That is why we designed and developed our aboveground double wall aviation fuel storage tanks range.
A speciality product built for the airline industry.
AVIATION FUEL STORAGE REGULATIONS
In the United States, if you store over 250 US gallons of fuel (aboveground) for commercial purposes you must ensure it is in a storage vessel that is double-walled. This goes for storing aviation fuel in any location, from commercial airfields to private airstrips.
Some states may allow a single skin storage tank but that must be contained within a self-contained bunded (upstand) construction for spillage containment.
Bunded areas should be sized to hold 110% of the capacity of the largest storage tank and are traditionally constructed from concrete or masonry adding to project costs and build times.
UNITY AVIATION FUEL TANKS REMOVE THE NEED FOR TRADITIONAL BUND WALL CONSTRUCTION AND CONTAINMENT
Our AVIATION series aboveground fuel tanks are manufactured using a double-walled construction, essentially a tank within a tank.
This integral secondary containment system creates an internal self-bunded solution and ensures traditional bund wall containment areas are no longer required.
AVIATION Double-Walled Tank = 100% Stainless Steel Primary Tank + 10% interstitial space + Secondary Mild Steel Outer Tank which equates to a bunded area of 110% of the storage tanks capacity. This complies with all secondary containment requirements for aboveground storage tanks.
OUR AVIATION TANKS COMPLY WITH ALL STATE AND FEDERAL ABOVEGROUND STORAGE TANK REGULATIONS AND FAA GUIDELINES
AVOIDING THE RISK OF AVIATION FUEL CONTAMINATION
The number one priority for storing aviation fuel is to avoid contamination. By law, any part of the tank that could come into contact with aviation fuel must be stainless steel so that there is no danger of rust contamination.
Our tanks have a GR 304 stainless steel inner tank with GR 304 stainless steel pump lines and fittings as standard. This not only meets all safety requirements giving you complete peace of mind but also ensures a long-lasting and durable storage and refueling system.
Another big enemy of aviation fuel is water. The excess build-up of condensation within a storage tank can lead to fuel being comprised in two ways:
- Water and fuel being drawn from the storage tank and transferred to the aircraft.
- Water promoting the growth of microbes which degrade fuel quality over time. Contaminated fuel transferred to the aircraft.
Both potentially leading to catastrophic engine failure, something best avoided at all cost.
UNITY Aviation fuel tanks address these challenges in a few ways:
- A sloping 50:1 floor on the internal stainless tank ensures water build-up can be drained easily and regularly as part of a maintenance program.
- Baffle free means hassle free. UNITY AVIATION TANKS are made without an interior baffle. This removes the danger of water and equipment being caught within the internal design of the tank. Without a baffle, you lower the risks of potential problems in the future.
