The "Bavarian Energy Efficiency Network Initiative" BEEN-i, coordinated by Bayern Innovativ, aims to support the development of energy efficiency networks in the Free State of Bavaria. With a realistic approach, the initiative supports medium-sized businesses and craft trade companies in implementing measures to save energy in cooperation with other companies.

Experience with pilot projects has shown that companies teaming up in energy efficiency networks are implementing measures to reduce their energy consumption and emissions faster and more economically than is the case in their day-to-day operations. In the free market, however, such networks are created only in very small numbers. The Federal Government and the federal states therefore promote appropriate networks and want to establish up to 500 energy efficiency networks nationwide by the end of 2020.

The "Bavarian Energy Efficiency Network Initiative" (BEEN-i), launched by the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Energy and Technology, aims to specifically support the development of energy efficiency networks in the Free State of Bavaria. BEEN-i is intended to help Bavarian companies raise efficiency potentials and thus considerably improve their energy efficiency and at the same time significantly reduce their energy costs. The Bavarian ministry of economics has entrusted Bayern Innovativ GmbH with the coordination of the initiative.

Strong in the network

By exchanging experiences with other companies and experts, the partners in an energy efficiency network can implement energy efficiency measures much more efficiently and successfully. Besides the reduction of energy costs and entrepreneurial contributions to climate protection, participation in the network also often leads to new know-how, innovations, advantages for marketing and thus an overall competitive advantage.

The process

The number of participating companies is at least 5 and ideally ranges from 8 to 15. The duration of the cooperation is 2 to 4 years. During this time, energy experts from the participating companies meet regularly three to four times a year to discuss specific topics and developments in energy efficiency with each other and with external experts. As a rule, this is combined with mutual company visits. These network meetings thus provide the basis for the individual companies to decide on measures and investments to save energy costs.
