OnShore Wind

SHARE

Wind represents a clean, entirely renewable and unending source of power and is the one of the fastest growing sources of generation in Europe today. Wind farms can be placed both on land and in the sea. The advantages of onshore wind farms are that they tend to be cheaper to install and provide local, distributed generation of power.

Almost no carbon is released as a result of the operation of wind farms. Power generated from wind turbines displaces power that would otherwise be generated using carbon intensive technologies, and, hence, reduces the emissions from the UK power generation sector. The main sources of emissions for wind power comes from the embedded energy relating to the manufacture and supply to the point of use, as well as ongoing maintenance requirements.

Wind has now overtaken landfill gas as the largest contributor to renewable energy generation in the UK. The Government’s targets for renewable power are likely to result in further development of onshore and offshore wind farms.

Infinis has an established track record as a developer of renewable generating facilities and is developing a strong portfolio of new projects comprising 63MW in construction, 59MW consented, 78MW determined, 72MW in planning, 180MW in development and approximately 435MW at various feasibility stages.

We have an experienced, multi-disciplined wind team with expertise in engineering, environmental management, energy, planning, power purchase, finance and construction.

The team has a strong track record in delivering planning consents, obtaining planning permission for the Lissett Airfield wind farm in seven months, Glenkerie in nine months and Gordonstown Hill in six months - significantly shorter timescales than typically achieved in the UK.

As a responsible developer we recognise the importance of open and inclusive consultation throughout the planning process and we engage with stakeholders through newsletters, presentations, one-to-one meetings and public exhibitions. Comments from local residents are addressed where possible in our final designs before we submit formal planning applications. We continue to consult after a planning application has been submitted and, if consent is granted, continue to liaise throughout the construction and operation of the wind farm.
