Renewable Energy - Our Methodology
Each renewable energy project led by Internat Energy Solutions (IES) begins with an initial on-site evaluation for various technology options. A client’s property is screened to determine whether or not certain renewable energy technologies are applicable for the given situation. Unlike traditional energy and power systems, renewable energy requires strong synergies with its environment and proper planning to be most effective. We complete a checklist of basic criteria which must be met before recommending if a client should proceed with a prefeasibility assessment of their property.

IESC uses prefeasibility assessments to gather and report important data regarding a property's potential to adopt renewable energy systems. The assessment accounts for applicable geographic and site specific characteristics pertinent to the technology under evaluation. It highlights project benefits and considers project roadblocks and/or potential pitfalls. With favourable results, prior to proceeding to a full feasibility study, a client is consulted to discuss prefeasibility findings and project specifics to include in the next stage of evaluation.
Our feasibility studies provide a client with high-level detailed information regarding a potential renewable energy project. A renewable energy system is modelled and its performance is simulated. This is completed through specialized software and calculations based on site specific data and third party verified hardware performance information to ensure accuracy. In addition, financial scenarios are modelled in detail to provide a client with a heightened awareness of their overall project economics. A subject property is graded based on specific criteria to compare its suitability with other sites or technologies. Preliminary design features are provided to establish the level of effort required for project implementation. Overall the feasibility study will form the basis for project tendering and implementation.
IESC's professional team provides full service renewable energy project implementation management. We work with our clients from the outset of the tendering phase by developing request for proposals documentation and evaluating proponent submissions. We take full responsibility in guiding a project through its implementation while ensuring timelines and budgets are met. Our renewable energy projects conclude with project performance validation and verification necessary to continue building client confidence and strong working relationships.
Systems Modelling and Design
System modelling and performance simulation are essential to successful renewable energy project evaluation and implementation. This activity enables a much more thorough analysis of a project's technical and financial implications. Modelling and simulation provide greater clarity through information necessary to support key decisions and risk evaluation of projects.
Designing the specific details of the system including hardware selection and system routing is the final step prior to project implementation. Renewable energy system design for successfully implemented projects is based on the results of the feasibility study; system modelling; and performance simulation. A key target of the design process is appropriate hardware selection, completed within budget for a given system design. IESC successfully meets this goal through its project experience; industry knowledge; technical expertise; and keen problem solving skills.
IESC combines its strong design capabilities with extensive program management experience which spans all project stages from concept to completion. IESC services can include additional measurements and system verification conducted after the conclusion of project construction. This enables performance evaluation and tracking to build a database of information for future improvements to the given project or others.
Feasibility Studies
The success of any renewable energy project begins from its inception. Prescribing the appropriate technology for a particular site is essential to realize the true benefits of renewable energy. A project site's surrounding natural landscape must compliment the operation of renewable energy technology for it to be a justified investment.
IES provides an on-site screening evaluation at the outset of any renewable energy project to determine whether certain technology is practical for a site. This exercise determines the best renewable energy options to undergo prefeasibility assessments and prevents wasting time investigating nonviable options.
IES provides independent experienced engineering prefeasibility assessments as a first stage analysis. This exercise is a deeper investigation of the technical viability of a renewable energy project. A favourable prefeasibility assessment paves the way for a comprehensive second stage feasibility analysis.
IES feasibility analysis includes system modelling and simulation integrated with financial implication scenarios. The results provide a client with clear financial figures and system performance metrics necessary for basing investment decisions. Local regulatory requirements, operating costs, risk analysis, and cash flow impacts are some of the issues that are explored in a feasibility analysis.
IES studies include: solar photovoltaic, solar thermal, micro-hydro, biomass and geo-exchange projects. Built on years of experience in the North American and European markets, our leading-edge tools and methodology are industry based best practices.
