Unique Projects Services
Because Thompson Metal Fab is so diverse and serves so many different industries, the door has opened for us to venture into other markets, such as the nuclear and mining industries. As a result, we sometimes do projects that don’t always fit into a niche category. TMF has, for instance, fabricated rocket launch tables, cranes, tramways, and cradles to ship nuclear canisters in recent years.
We have built much of our reputation for our work with steel. But we also are experts with other materials, including stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, copper and brass. Our state-of-the-art equipment allows us to handle virtually any fabricating project.
Take, for instance, the Boeing Delta IV launch that TMF built in 2003 for Vandenburg Air Force Base in California. This 580-ton project included such detailed work as fabricating flame deflectors. After it was completed, the launch pad was barged down the Columbia River, into the Pacific Ocean and then south to California.
While the Delta IV launch pad was a rather large endeavor, we also are quite comfortable doing other, albeit smaller, “unique projects.” Either way we’ve discovered we’re quite good at them — just as we are with bridge, dam and vessel work.
