Co-Generation Power Plants
Pro2 - Landfill Gas
The safe collection and disposal of landfill gas is a sensitive topic. Released uncontrolled, it represents a health hazard and a danger to the climate and environment. Used wisely, the fuel can be converted into an energy resource. Approximately 150-250m³ of landfill gas is created per ton of decomposed domestic waste. This is chiefly composed of methane, a colourless and odourless gas. When methane content reaches approximately 40%, this gas can be used for power and heat generation in modern co-generation power plants. The resulting gas is drawn out of the landfill via the installed gas wells by means of a vacuum-extraction system. If necessary, the gas is then treated (drained and purified) before being transferred to the gas engines.
