About us
Landsvirkjun Power is the engineering, construction and foreign investment arm of Landsvirkjun (The National Power Company in Iceland). The purpose of Landsvirkjun Power is primarily consultancy in development of power schemes, and secondly, investment in such schemes outside of Iceland.
The Landsvirkjun Power staff has extensive experience covering all phases of planning, site investigations, design and construction of hydroelectric and geothermal power stations as well as transmission networks.
In January 2008 the entire staff of the Engineering and Construction division of Landsvirkjun was transferred to a separate entity, Landsvirkjun Power, a limited liability company fully owned by Landsvirkjun, together with management of all new, on-going Landsvirkjun projects. Responsibilities of Landsvirkjun Power for the parent company, Landsvirkjun, include:
- Hydrological and climate change studies
- Feasibility studies and site exploration work
- Environmental studies and environmental impact assessments
- Basic design and design reviews
- Tendering and contracting
- Construction management and supervision
- Quality assurance
- Acceptance inspections and tests
- Monitoring of dams and hydraulic structures
Our experts have carried out research and preparatory works, managed design and construction of all hydroelectric and geothermal installations and the high-voltage transmission system that Landsvirkjun has built and operated in Iceland over the last 40 years. Furthermore, our specialists have worked with powerintensive industries for decades and understand the needs of such customers.
Landsvirkjun Power has also carried out activities in the hydro- and geothermal power sector abroad, e.g. in Albania, Greenland, Newfoundland and Turkey.
