Corporate Responsibility
René Moerman, chief strategy officer and founder of Solar Insurance & Finance is one of the minds behind Photon Energy Foundation and a member of its Board. Stichting Photon Energy Foundation is a Dutch not-for-profit organisation that aims to encourage community development through electrification of rural regions using clean and safe solar solutions. Its mission is to customize and deliver solar energy solutions to the developing world and thus improve living standards of the previously non-electrified communities.
Replacing toxic and dangerous kerosene with clean and safe lighting solutions is the first step towards better life among off-grid communities. The ultimate goal is to ensure full electrification of remote villages with the help of renewable and sustainable energy sources. To achieve this Photon Energy Foundation works closely together with local organisations in remote regions, while inviting companies and international financial institutions to contribute and support its socially significant goals.
“Even an extremely low initial investment – sometimes as low as 10 US$ - into solar-powered technology can be of great help for most people in remote communities. But this relatively tiny amount makes a huge long-lasting impact” explains Anastasiya Stankevych, director of Photon Energy Foundation. “No contribution is too small to make a difference”.
Projects realised by the Foundation ultimately result in:
- Prolonged hours of lighting in off-grid families.
- Improved educational level due to longer studying hours for children.
- Additional income for local entrepreneurs thanks to longer hours of running their businesses.
- Improved health services and safer conditions for doctoral treatment in hospitals.
- Higher disposable income in families due to significant savings on kerosene and candles.
- Improved health indicators due to elimination of hazardous and toxic fumes from burning kerosene lamps for household lighting.
- Community development and noticeably better quality of life.
