MILENA-OLGA - Combined Heat and Power Plants (CHP)

Royal Dahlman has participated in the design of several combined heat and power plants with our OGLA tar removal system and our knowledge on the overall plant integration. Most work has been done on GE-Jenbacher type 6 gas engines and Caterpillar 3516A+ gas engine, nowadays replaced by the 3516C gas engine. Royal Dahlman realised two OLGA projects in which the product gas was utilised in Caterpillar 3516A+ gas engines, delivered by Eneria. Operation of the engines was successful in both projects.

Compared with gas turbines engines have a higher direct electric efficiency and lower parasitic load as the product gas does not need to be compressed. Less electricity can be generated from the  exhaust gas of engines, however modern organic rankine cycled are still able to contribute with a significant amount of energy. The MILENA gasifier further enhances the efficiency. MILENA-OLGA-CHP plants can reach overall net electric efficiencies over 30% and are therewith the logical choice for smaller scale plants.
