FBM Hudson - Air Cooled Heat Exchangers
Since 1968 FBM Hudson Italiana is one of the world’s acclaimed suppliers of Air Cooled Heat Exchanger for Oil & Gas, Refineries, Petrochemical, Chemical and Power. We provide Clients with a complete range of services starting from thermal and mechanical engineering, complete manufacturing, modularization, supervision at site, after-sales service and supply of spare parts. Air Cooled Heat Exchangers are typically used when plant location and ambient conditions do not allow an easy and economic use of other cooling systems.
Advantages
The most important advantages of Air Cooled Heat Exchangers are:
- No need of cooling water or other cooling media.
- No problems associated with thermal and chemical pollution of cooling fluids
- Flexibility for any plant location and plot plan arrangement (allowing installation over other units)
- Reduction of maintenance costs (cleaning is normally limited to the inside of exchanger tubes)
- Easy bolted assembly installation
Configurations
Forced draft
Allows easier maintenance of the fans. Fans deliver air at ambient temperatures with consequent higher efficiency.
Induced Draft
The plenum chambers are mounted on top of the bundle and protect the finned surface against wind, rain, snow and partially hail. The location of the fans also ensure an optimum air distribution, limit air recirculation and allows lower level at maintenance walkway level.
Recirculated unit
For special process and suitable for cold climates, it is advisable to provide warm air recirculation to prevent freezing. This recirculation may be achieved by means of louvers, steam coils and variable pitch fans.
Pre-Assembled Modules
A new philosophy in the supply of air cooled heat exchangers is represented by the air cooled assembled modules. The long construction time needed for the installation at the plants as well as the lack and increased cost manpower, has prompted the introduction of pre-assembled units to the market. The units are expressly designed for safe transportation and easy installation in the plant. On demand they can be shop tested before delivery.
Steam Condensers
The steam condensers are a more sophisticated version of the air cooled heat exchangers. They are used for steam condensation in process/ incinerator/ power plants and are usually supplied as a package including all necessary components like expansion joints, ejectors, tank, pumps, safety valves, etc.
Aluminum Embedded or Grooved Type (G Type)
Aluminum Embedded or Grooved Type (G Type)
The embedded type finned tubes designed and manufactured by FBM-Hudson Italiana are particularly suitable for such industrial sectors as:
- Oil refineries, chemical and petrochemical plants
- Natural gas compression stations
- Steel mills
- Steam condensation systems
- Household waste incineration plants
- As well as many other applications in air re-heating systems, etc.
Manufacturing Process Description:
- A groove is cut in the bare tube by metal lifting.
- The strip is embedded under tension into the groove and a back filler disk clamps the fin foot by applying pressure to the lifted metal.
- This manufacturing process ensures that the fin is fixed tightly to the tube, providing optimum heat transfer.
Characteristics
- Provides a perfect fit between the fin and the tube
- May be used at temperatures up to 400°C (752°F)
