Biomass fuel production or usage processes in energy generation. Biomass fuels such as wood pellets, bagasse and hog fuels can be burned to generate power. However, they are more susceptible to spontaneous combustion than traditional fuels such as bituminous coal.
Spontaneous combustion can occur at any stage of storage, production or transport, so continuous and reliable monitoring is required. Early detection of combustion or hot spots is an important safety control.
