Data Centres
Data centres and server farms come in all shapes, forms and sizes. To date, those in Iceland have been designed according to the needs of the local market, and as a result have been very small in global terms. This is rapidly changing, however, as international operators and investors become increasingly aware of the country‘s huge potential in this highly specialised, energy-intensive field, particularly in terms of ready access to reliable supplies of cheap green energy and excellent cooling capabilities. As average temperatures and humidity are very low, operating costs due to energy significantly much lower than in most other countries, and cold air costs nothing.
Energy Consulting Services
EFLA provides clients with a dedicated team of specialists operating in the field of energy consulting for private companies and public services. Harnessing several decades experience in this specialised discipline, EFLA has produced a series of energy forecasts for Iceland`s Energy Forecast Committee, including electrical, fossil fuel and geothermal energy forecasts, along with a wealth of energy-related data analysis. The company has also played a major role in planning Iceland`s electricity distribution network, including consultation on tariffs and sales.
High-Voltage Power Transmission Networks
From the outset, the design and construction of high-voltage transmission networks have been core activities in EFLA operations, and the company has been involved in every project involving lines of 132 kV and above constructed in Iceland. At the same time, EFLA has played a key role in the construction of networks in locations ranging from Finland, France, Greenland, Norway and Sweden to the tropical climates of Africa and Asia, operating in a wide variety of challenging geographic and climatic conditions.
Hydroelectric Power
The provision of comprehensive consulting services on electricity generation forms a core area of EFLA operations, and hydroelectric power projects are one of the company‘s key specialities. For many years, Iceland has been a world leader in the use of hydropower as an renewable energy source, and since the company‘s inception, EFLA has played a key role in several of the country‘s largest projects, among them the Kárahnjúkar hydropower project.
