SMU Geothermal Research
Research is the lifeblood of the SMU Geothermal Laboratory. For over 40 years it has provided a rich foundation for the educational experience offered to undergraduates and graduate students alike. The main research focus of the SMU Geothermal Lab is exploration and assessment of existing and potential geothermal resources.
SMU Geothermal Databases
The SMU Geothermal Laboratory has a number of different databases accessible through the website. The data records contained within were used in various geothermal maps (heat flow, temperature-at-depth, resource potential, etc.) generated by the lab. The information within the different databases will be available as part of our contribution to the National Geothermal Data System project with the Department of Energy as well.Geothermal Maps
The SMU Geothermal Laboratory is regarded as one of the centers of excellence for geothermal mapping, primarily to describe: Heat flow, temperature-at-depth, and geothermal resource potential. These parameters are often misunderstood, therefore an understanding of the differences is important for their proper use.
