Experia M1-CIGS is the new and unique in the World fully automatic tabbing/stringing machine that makes strings with CIGS metal photovoltaic cells developed by Midsummer AB company from Sweden.

CIGS means “Copper-Indium-Gallium-Selenium” and it is a tetrahedrally bonded semiconductor that converts the energy of light directly into electricity by the photovoltaic effect (PV). The CIGS absorber and all other materials that form the finished solar cell are deposited on a stainless steel substrate. The cells are then connected in series via busbars screen printed on top of the cell outside of the DUO.

CIGS solar cells are manufactured by sputtering the material onto 156x156 mm stainless steel substrates. The solar cells from Midsummer are free of cadmium, a toxic material usually used in CIGS and other thin film solar cells. Flexible CIGS solar modules are gaining market share thanks to its high efficiency, low weight, flexibility and durability.

The CIGS thin-film cells made by Midsummer DUO are first processed by Experia CIGS450U in the application of back contact busbars. Then, the pretreated cells are automatically loaded into M1-CIGS machine.

M1-CIGS stringer machine solders 300 photovoltaic CIGS metal cells/h.

It is possible to connect the stringer machine to an automatic layup station to place and align strings on the first plastic sheet.
