Scientists have spent years trying to find the causes of global warming leading to significant changes in the world’s climate. Their research shows that several factors have contributed to the rise of earth’s temperature and altering of natural cycles and actions. One key reason is excessive emission of greenhouse gases like, methane and carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. These gases are trapping the heat from the sun and warming our planet. Burning fossil fuel such as coal and petroleum to run cars, electrical appliances and machines in factories; and cutting down trees for urbanization are also significantly responsible for warming our atmosphere.

To bring environmental sustainability worldwide and address adverse climatic change issue, scientists have increasingly stressed on the need to use renewable energy. It is safe, cost-effective, and a reliable alternative to meet all our commercial and residential energy needs.

Solar energy

Sunlight helps us to survive. The solar energy can also be trapped in a smart way to be used effectively for heat and electricity-based machinery in houses and commercial spaces. Solar energy conversion technologies have steadily increased in the last 20 years. Solar panels prove to be highly efficient and reliable, and do not cause air or water pollution. They can be installed on rooftops, in open fields, and remote locations to convert the rays from the sun into renewable energy. Ongoing research continues to increase the efficiency of solar panels and decrease their production costs, in order to make them more viable.

Wind energy

Using wind power to produce energy can reduce a country’s dependence on fossil fuels. Wind energy is still the cheapest, inexhaustible renewable energy on earth, and should be deployed in large amounts to generate electricity in various countries worldwide. Highly cost-effective, wind energy reduces vulnerability to electricity price hikes and supply commotions. Wind energy systems can be used to tap wind power to use in various applications, turbines, water pumps, ice makers, operating telecommunication sites, and more.

Geothermal energy

Geothermal resources have higher dependency value and are available 24/7. They can be readily accessed from the earth’s interior to generate heat for direct use and to produce electricity. High-end geothermal technologies are applied to extract heat from natural springs or reservoirs located almost 4,000 miles below the earth’s surface. Geothermal power plants are constructed near geothermal reservoirs for maximum generation of electric energy, and sometimes power and heat both.

Bioenergy increases efficiency and reduces fossil fuel consumption, thereby, promoting sustainable living on a global scale. A large number of feasible, low cost bioenergy systems can be used to meet all energy needs and bring economic benefits to people living in a specific region. Plants, livestock and solid municipal wastes can be treated and processed to produce biofuel, which is currently the largest renewable energy source in the world. Bioenergy reduces reliance on fossil fuel, offers reliability, and significantly decrease production costs.

Thus, renewable energy can no longer be tagged as an alternative form; being cost-effective, safe to use and abundantly available, these are now a mainstream energy options at many places. Most importantly, natural energy does not contain harmful chemicals and does not support carbon footprint. Solar panels and other such energy-efficient technologies should be used extensively to promote energy security, and to effectively address our dependency on fossil fuel and nuclear power.
