DEWA selects Masdar-FRV joint venture as the developer for the Phase 3 of the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashed Solar Energy Park
Abu Dhabi Presidential Palace, UAE -- In the presence of HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashed Al Maktoum*, UAE Prime Minister and Minsiter of Defense, Ruler of Dubai, the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between UAE Minister of State and Chairman of Masdar, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company, Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, and Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa), Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, on the implementation of the 800-megawatt (MW) third phase of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park was signed.
The Masdar led consortium includes the Spanish origin, Saudi owned FRV (Fotowatio Renewable Ventures) and GranSolar of Spain.
MESIA President, Hadi Tahboub comments, ' What we are witnessing here is the UAE's full steam commitment to meet the COP 21 objectives. DEWA, under the full support of HH Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashed is breaking down barriers and walls in achieving lower costs, 'doable' financial models, in developing utility scale solar energy IPP's. Kudos to the Dubai government and vision'.
About the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashed Solar Park:
According to DEWA, and in line with the vision and directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to promote a sustainable future development for the Emirate of Dubai, and as part of the Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy 2030 implementation related to energy resources diversification, the largest solar park in the region will be built in Dubai. In January 2012, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai launched the Dubai Programme for Renewable Energy and announced the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, one of the largest renewable-energy projects in the region, with a production capacity of 3,000 MW when completing all its phases by 2030.
