Double success for Switch2 Energy in awards for district heating excellence
Switch2 Energy has been shortlisted for two leading industry awards for excellence in district and community heating.
15.01.2018 --
The company is a double finalist in the Heating and Ventilation (H&V) News Awards, which are an annual celebration of achievement and forward thinking across the building services industry.
Switch2, which provides complete end-to-end management of community heating schemes, has reached the finals of the District Heating Project of the Year Award, for its partnership with Sheffield City Council. The company is also shortlisted for the Domestic Heating Product of the Year Award, in recognition of its multifunctional Incontro smart meter for heat networks.
Residents connected to Sheffield City Council's heat network are saving an average 38% on their heating bills by using Switch2's advanced pay-as-you-go smart meters. They have gained control and visibility of their energy usage and budgeting to achieve a predicted total annual cost saving of £1.4 million, averaging £238 per home.
Switch2 supported its smart metering roll-out to 5,800 homes with a major community engagement and education programme – to ensure smooth project delivery and full support for vulnerable residents. The company also installed bulk meters into 135 plant rooms, which is helping the council to monitor usage and improve performance of the heat network.
Switch2's Incontro smart meter, shortlisted for the Domestic Heating Product of the Year Award, is designed around residents' needs to provide flexible, transparent heat services. It is the first technology of its kind to combine pay-as-you-go billing, energy control, management and monitoring in one single device.
Incontro makes it simpler for residents to budget and pay for their energy and control and monitor their energy usage. It also enables heat scheme operators to manage costs, reduce debt risk, improve environmental performance, and achieve compliance with statutory regulations and voluntary codes.
The UK designed and manufactured smart home technology points the way forward for the future of connected homes and the digital operation of heat networks. It is being used by growing numbers of district and community energy schemes, including energetik's Enfield heat networks in North London.
Kirsty Lambert, Director of Switch2 Energy, said: 'We are very proud to be double finalists in the prestigious H&V Awards. Our success is based on putting the customer first in everything we do. We deliver reliable, transparent and innovative technologies and services across all aspects of community and district heating schemes, providing lower carbon, more affordable heat for all.'
Switch2 Energy provides a complete service to the district and community heating sector – supplying 70,000 residents and 180 clients across 500 heat networks. Its systems and products that are benchmarked against industry good practice to improve customer service.
