GTI Gears Up for BC Project
Fabrication is nearing completion of the 5 acre (2 hectare) Biogas Collection Cover and Biogas Control System for the City Of Kamloops Sewerage Treatment Centre upgrade project. The insulated floating cover will be installed over the anaerobic lagoon for odour control and eventual energy recovery.
GTI has been pleased to work with City staff and the specialists at Urban Systems in planning the project. The covered anaerobic lagoon is a key part of the overall plant upgrades which include lagoon restructuring, new pipelines, and aeration cells. GTI was selected as a vendor in 2011 following a multi-step proposal process. We are now coordinating the installation schedule with Maple Reindeers, the General Contractor, which will be within the next few months.
The cover and control system will collect biogas generated in the anaerobic cell and burn the biogas in a flare. Burning the biogas will eliminate odours. Odours in biogas originate from hydrogen sulfide, a naturally occurring by-product of anaerobic digestion, also referred to as rotten-egg gas. There are plans for future use of the gas. Biogas contains up to 70% methane and can fuel engines for electrical power generation or boilers for hot water and steam.
GTI is proud to be part of this well managed project and looks forward to a successful conclusion.
