Renewable energy plans for Kent
A planning application has been submitted to Kent County Council for a new Biomass combined heat and power plant at Ridham Dock.
If approved, the proposed plant would be capable of processing up to 160,000 tonnes of non-recyclable waste wood per annum.
Approximately 25MW of power and up to 35MW of low grade steam heat could be produced, with the plant saving about 540,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year by diverting the non-recyclable wood away from landfill.
The plan was submitted by Biomass Power Plant Ridham, a subsidiary of Evonik New Energies and HES Biopower.
Evonik project manager Juergen Kirsch said: “This is a really exciting development for the area in supporting its endeavours to reach landfill diversion and renewable energy targets.”
A decision on the planning application is expected later this year.
