Solar Internet In The Air
Both of the social media giants Facebook and Google want to expand their audiences, particularly in the developing world. Both the companies are trying to provide fast internet facility around the globe wherever it is required.
Facebook Solar-Powered Drones
Facebook has planned to connect the world that has no internet access, via drones, lasers and satellites. The founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg announced regarding that new move. It will keep Facebook in direct competition with Google, which is setting up to deliver internet access by means of balloons. Details regarding Facebook’s plan were limited but it will contain a fleet of solar-powered drones plus low-earth orbit as well as geosynchronous satellites. Unseen, infrared laser rays could also be utilized to increase the speed of the internet connections.
Facebook has already teamed up with telecoms operators in the Philippines as well as Paraguay to twofold the number of people using the internet in that area.
Mr. Zuckerberg told in his post that the company is going to carry on building these partnerships, but connecting the entire world will need inventing novel technology.
Google’s Project Loon
Google’s Project Loon launched recently, with balloons headed out around the world from a distant location in New Zealand. The objective is to offer broadband-like internet for the two-thirds of the world that does not have access to a steadfast internet connection. To accomplish this aim, Google is using a network of actual lofty altitude balloons that fly above the Earth. The start on of the project consisted of initiating 30 balloons, each of which is able of providing internet facility with speeds similar to 3G.
At first look, Project Loon has to be one of the craziest thoughts we’ve ever had from Google. Nearly all commercial airplanes fly at 30,000 feet above the surface of earth, but these latest balloons will fly in the stratosphere, at twenty kilometers above the surface of earth.
Project Loon of Google is an innovation plan that has just been made possible in the past five years, due to fast increases in computing power. There are whole teams of MIT educated researchers from a broad range of engineering and computing fields working to make Project Loon a reality. It requires an unbelievable amount of technological superiority to maintain an aerial network of balloons floating along a steady path, and then allow those balloons to communicate WiFi signals to receivers on homes in out-of-the-way areas. Imagine how much effort it acquires to maintain a simple kite floating on a windy day, now see in your mind's eye that kite twenty kilometers above you, linked to a lot of other unruly kites.
